Antique Writing Slope, or Lapdesk, Inlaid, France, c.1850Rosewood inlaid with mother of pearl, brass and ivory. The sloping front opens to reveal the original velvet writing surface which lifts to show paper storage. The top section reveals a pen tray, ink bottle and sand shaker, and has a working lock and key. An outstanding example, and in very good condition with a minor amount of restoration to a small area of the inlay. France, c. 1850 10 inches wide 7. 5 inches deep 1. 75 inches tall
